An incendiary mixture of clownery, pantomime and magic –
Three clowns and a magician transform chaos into art.
Bajazzo Invasion is an artists’ collective consisting of Lukas Besuch, Bernd Busch, Merlin Pohse and Alexander Merk.
The current show had its world premiere at the 2024 Festival Off Avignon in France. The ensemble had a guest residency at the festival for three weeks and enjoyed great success with audiences.
The idea for the show came about by chance in 2018 during the Milan Clown Festival. It was given its premiere in Vienna in 2021.
After an extraordinary summer of stage performances in 2024 at the legendary festival in Avignon, Bajazzo Invasion is taking the show on tour so that audiences all over the world can get to see it live!
All four of the artists are very experienced festival performers, with guest appearances in countries including France, Switzerland, Austria, Mexico, Denmark, South Korea, the Netherlands, Morocco, Belgium, Liechtenstein, Turkey, Slovakia, Italy among others.
The show is a non-verbal performance.
Spectacular crash landing in the theatre
Having emerged unscathed after a dramatic crash in their rusty aeroplane, the artists embark on a thrilling, modern stage spectacle. As our intrepid troupe repair their damaged plane, the audience is treated to a fast-paced show full of fun, music and a hilarious battle for the audience’s favour which even leads to the impromptu creation of an orchestra.
Words aren’t needed: their language is laughter.
This show is an entertaining adventure that wins the hearts of the audience, taking them on a journey full of creativity and shared enjoyment. A bit trashy, outrageously funny, fabulously incorrect and at times bizarre!
A modern clown spectacle for adults and of course for the whole family – Contemporary circus on a world-class level.

The artists

Merlin Pohse
Merlin Pohse is a qualified mime artist who has worked for many years as a successful master of ceremonies, clown and chansonnier in the circus, theatre and cabaret. Merlin sometimes performs as a solo artist, one half of the Duo Desolato and with his own variety company, the Kabaret Kalashnikov. He has performed in many of the world’s major cities, as well as in exotic locations such as Belize, Korea and Kurdistan. When he is not away on tour, Merlin can be seen on one of the countless stages in Berlin, the city he calls home.

Bernd Busch
Bernd Busch is a well-travelled clown from the German state of Thuringia: He has performed all over the world, from Antarctica to Turkey, from Slovakia to Italy, from Morocco to Denmark. Busch completed his studies as a music teacher at the Weimar Music Academy and has degrees in piano and double bass.
He is the Jack Nicholson among clowns and comics, and in his shows he often gets the audiences to participate in his unique combination of modern music comedy, true classics, and improvisation.
Bernd Busch has worked as a solo artist and for 25 years he was part of the duo “Die Buschs”. In 2021 he founded “Die Busch Company” together with Alexander Merk and the jazz guitarist Tommy Feiler.
The company performs fantastic live shows featuring jazz music, musical comedy and magical curiosities.
Even after more than 35 years of performing at festivals and in theatres, Busch is still driven by the challenge to constantly reinvent himself and break new ground in his performances.
Together with theatre legend Corny Littmann, Bernd Busch founded the Spielbuden Festival in Hamburg, which is considered one of the most entertaining festivals in northern Germany. It presents unique stage productions in public spaces.
Bajazzo Invasion is Busch’s latest production.

Lukas Besuch
Lukas Besuch was born in a small south German town in 1979.
Even as a child he always had a sense of adventure and a desire to travel, so it was a natural step for him to become a clown. After studying mime artistry at a circus school in Berlin, he secured his first engagements in Germany and abroad.
On his journey as an artiste, he has toured with the Circus Roncalli, performed at the largest Latin American event, the Avocado Festival in Mexico, at a cabaret theatre in South Korea and at the only cultural festival in Saudi Arabia – and this broad range of experiences convinced him that he made the right career choice.
He has been encouraged in artistic endeavours by winning diverse performing arts awards and the 2021 Kurdistan/Iraq “Best Actor” award. Since then, he has often returned to this region. He performs his clown shows and teaches theatre and clowning in cooperation with the Goethe-Institut in a number of Iraqi refugee camps..

Alexander Merk
Using the full arsenal of his trade including humour, emotion, illusion, deception and his very own brand of magic, Alexander Merk conjures his way into the hearts of his audience. At the World Championship of Magic in Blackpool (UK) the German magic champion was voted among the world’s top ten magicians and received standing ovations from the audience of fellow magicians. This clever conjurer from Berlin has a distinct penchant for witty gags and mind-boggling magic.
Alexander Merk can be seen performing his programme regularly on stage, in variety shows or as a magician and presenter at dinner shows, where he both amazes and amuses his audiences. The Berlin-based magician weaves fantastical tales for his audience, offering something that has become quite rare in our fast-paced society: true amazement!
